Don’t Jealous Me (T BOY)Wed 06 Apr
HE HAD a career in basketball all mapped out. At 6ft 4ins and with scouts in the States salivating over his skills, many said actor and comedian T-Boy was destined for a lucrative career on the court, but fate had other ideas.
Despite wowing college teams Stateside, the 25-year-old was forced to make a difficult decision: continue chasing his dream overseas or pack up and come back home to London and nurture a new one.
“I chose to come back to London and I guess that was a good idea,” he says.
After amassing over 30 million views on YouTube with his hit web series Don’t Jealous Me, I’m inclined to agree.
Don’t Jealous Me, started “randomly” in 2008. T-Boy, real name Tolulope Ogunmefun, had been in his university dorm with some friends when a female classmate made fun of the way he was eating a beef burger and attempted to film the act.
He explains: “She tried to embarrass me and brought out her phone.”
Adopting his famed character’s Nigerian accent, he continues: “I was like, ‘don’t jealous me just because you haven’t got burger in your country!’ “Everyone was in stiches and from there I thought, ‘I’m kind of enjoying this,’ so I decided to make another video.”
